The diploma education program, jointly operated by Guangxi Polytechnic of Construction (GXPC) and Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) based on the sectional teaching model of “2+1”, began enrolling students since 2012. Currently, it has attracted nearly 800 students. Since the program sent its first batch of oversea students to New Zealand in 2014, there have been 40 students starting their specialized courses of Architectural Engineering Technology and Interior Design Technology. The annual academic exchange of teaching staffs between two institutes started in 2012. Since then, a total of 30 lecturers of GXPC have visited WelTec, and correspondingly, WelTec has sent 8 tutors to GXPC for carrying out teaching activities in total.
The establishments of the original practical teaching and the practical teaching with WelTec characteristics have been strengthened and improved based on the needs of vocational skills development. It provides good foundations to the program students for their further studies in WelTec. Via this method of reforming practical, the international competitiveness of students has been improving. Sharing a good command of English and strong professional attainments, a high-quality bilingual teaching team has been established through the annual academic exchange between two institutes.
